Our Story — by Matt & Anna

It was a scene pretty typical of how my life had looked for years: a comfortable corner seat at Summer Moon coffee on a Saturday morning in Oklahoma—laptop and a contract law textbook on one side of the table, a cup of coffee and a notepad on the other. Out of my peripheral vision the door opened, and my attention went to the tall brunette who had just walked in. In the middle of one of the most challenging seasons of my life, I met the woman I had been praying for. She loves the Lord with her whole heart, finds more joy in the countryside than in the bustle of the city, and can make almost any day better with good music, good food, strong coffee, and a good book. She combines creativity, discipline, and grace—kind, thoughtful, adventurous, and with a way of making every place feel a little more like home. What began as a chance encounter over coffee soon revealed itself to be the goodness of the Lord. Over the ensuing months, long conversations became shared adventures, and we discovered in one another not only a best friend but a partner with whom we wanted to build a life. Through years of waiting, law school deadlines, busy schedules, many miles traveled, and the ordinary moments in between, God was writing a story far better than either of us could have planned. And now we cannot wait to begin the next chapter together.

About Us

Anna was raised in the picturesque farm country of southern Wisconsin; her Upper Midwestern accent peeks through whenever she says, "Oh yeah, doncha know?" Music has always been central to her life—an accomplished violinist who has performed in orchestras from Canada to Oklahoma. After seven years working in the Trader Joe’s culture, she now lives her dream as a luthier, helping musicians and students with their instruments. I grew up between the oil-patch town of Odessa, Texas, and the mountains of Fort Davis; friends say my West Texas twang shows up when I use more colorful language. I’m a recovering reporter who covered everything from major political stories to small-town happenings and am now finishing my Juris Doctor at Oklahoma City University School of Law, looking forward to a career in the legal profession. Despite coming from opposite ends of the country, we’ve discovered we share more than we expected—we were both homeschooled, prefer mountains to beaches, have lived nomadic lives, and count good food among our love languages. We enjoy the same coffee, love classical music, and share a passion for history and literature (Tolkien fans, of course). As our friend Josh would note, we’re both slightly tall. Most importantly, we both love the Lord with all our hearts and desire to build a life together founded on His Word. We are deeply grateful for the family and friends who have supported us, and we’re delighted to share a little of our story with you.
